SUNDAY, AUGUST 11
Here we go again…searching for dishes, utensils, pans, pots, blender, knives, staples for cooking. Searching has become an integral part of our existence this year. Staying again at Fiona’s made us realize how nice it is to be familiar with a place. But we learn and adjust quickly.
First, we tried to establish a routine for the week. Here we go…
7:30 – let the hens out of their cage, let dogs out one at a time to pee; 8:00 walk dogs down road and to the Church and cemetery; 8:45ish feed the cats; 9:00-10:30 dogs sleep; 10:30 feed the dogs; 1:00 take dogs to the farm for a run; 3:00 go to Fiona’s house or run errands; let dogs out for the afternoon, one at a time or all together when we are outside; 7:00 feed the pigs; turn on water for garden; 7:30 feed the hens and put them in their cage; 8:00 turn off the water; 10:30 feed cats again and shut the door; 11:00 put dogs to bed.
Then there is all the stuff in between. Compost and garbage, cleaning (because five dogs make lots of hair and carry lots of dirt), washing the dogs because they roll in stinky stuff they think is perfume, laundry, feeding us. And we get fed well…garden to table style. Fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning. Steel cut oats and berries (from the garden) for breakfast.
For dinner we made garden kale with lemon, garlic and almonds; garden tomatoes roasted with garden garlic for the pasta; garden lettuce for the salad.
We watched the moonlight on the ocean. Then on Netflix we watched Orange is the New Black on the ginormous movie screen in the screening room. Living the life for one week! Chalk this up as another unexpected experience.
