BUS ONE
A full on travel day…covering all forms of transport. We started on the Tube to Victoria Station, carrying only our one, overnight suitcase shared by both of us, then caught the bus to Gatwick. We saved about 20 pounds by taking the bus, but I’m not sure it was worth it. The ride wound, and I mean wound, from one roundabout to the next, bumping through the many villages skirting London. My stomach rumbling the entire nearly two hours of the ride.
BUS TWO
In order to save on taxi costs (we were told by our last taxi driver in Crawley that airports add 20 pounds to taxi fares when picking up at airports), we left the airport in search of the local bus. The directions we were given were ridiculous…go up the escalator, find the Costa Coffeeshop, go through a passage near it, take the stairs, follow a small walkway, turn left, go down more stairs, take the underpass to the other side of the street, and walk down the street. It seemed hopeless, but we followed someone, and then someone else. But, that little adventure made us late, even with our last running sprint to the stop. In the end, we took the bus one stop, got off and called a cab. Not exactly cost efficient.
TAXI
The cab driver told us that, in fact, the airport doesn’t add additional fare. We ended up spending an extra 3 pounds…for nothing. Live and learn.
The cab took us back to the Ifield housesit, where we had left our bags. We rushed inside, give Depp a little pet, and took our bags back to the waiting cab. The cab driver rushed as much as he could to get us back to Gatwick.
PLANE
We finally landed in Edinburgh just after 9pm. A 12 hours journey, but we made it…all that travel anxiety for naught. The hotel where we stayed was a treat, the Moxy Hotel next to the airport. We even got a free welcome drink!
