FRIDAY, AUGUST 23
We dressed up as nicely as our “Ireland” clothes would allow, excited to be going out. Chloe looked gorgeous in a long black dress, a tight, short black jacket and a large belt around her tiny waist. I also wore black but complimented with a lot of lint and sneakers. Chloe wore sneakers as well (all we have) but they looked cute on her. The point was, though, we dressed up.
Pilgrims, a Rosscarbery restaurant, boasts local and seasonal meals, changed daily, and is highly rated. We had all four courses, determined to use up every bit of the 100 euro gift certificate we’d been given by Olive and Peter as pay for taking care of the animals.
The food was mediocre at best. It seemed like the chef was trying a bit too hard. So many odd ingredients mixed together. I like inventive and I like odd ingredients but this was experimentation maximalism. As Chloe said, the food would have been better if we stayed home. We were overstuffed and under satisfied when we left.
Still it was fun to go out.
It was our last day of callanetics. Big, sad hugs when we said goodbye to Justina. I just kept saying, “We’ll see you again. I’m sure.” But I’m not sure. I tell all the lovely people we’ve met on this year of adventure that we will see them again, but will we?
At dinner, Chloe told me she needs to spend two years acquiring credits at Langara College before she can transfer to another University. I don’t know how I will live in Vancouver for another two years.
Day by day.
