WEDNESDAY, MAY 8
Before leaving, we cleaned, packed and boxed, visited the post office where I paid too much money to ship our boxes (three small ones taped together as one), 150 pounds (YIKES!), and took Duffy for a long walk through Braidburn park and into Blackburn. Leaving Duffy was breaking my heart. I really fell for this sweet, smart dog. I love that dogs always act like they are five years old, the way they smell all the sweet smells, wag their tails like a big smile, and delight in the moment.
We left Duffy and the lovely home of Matt, Lucy and little Eliot, before they returned. It was just past 5:00. They would be home at 8:00.
Much lighter now, we pulled our bags in the cold rain to the bus stop about five minutes away. No more wool sweaters to keep us warm, only layers of thin cottons.
The bus ride from Edinburgh to Glasgow takes just over an hour (about 8 pounds/person). We were so happy to be sitting in a warm place, even if it was a bus. The view out the window reminded me of Gerhardt Richter’s paintings. The colors smeared together, subtle under the grey sky and pelting rain, in hues that melded together…serene yet dramatic, powerful yet peaceful. So many ways to see green.
