SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29
The stylishness of the people at the Farmers Market in Skibbereen impressed Chloe. It’s definitely the place to be on Saturday! We even saw one of The Lost Brothers there.
Near the market’s entrance, which fills a large parking lot with rows of stands, fishermen and women beheaded and cleaned fish at one booth. A young weaver read his book in front of his baskets. A long, picnic table was set up where people gathered and ate freshly prepared foods — falafel, soups, crepes, pastries — all the while serenaded by a young woman singing and playing her cello.
This week the French woman sold us the sourdough bread for 3.5 euros instead of 5 (what she charged us last week). We bought sun dried tomatoes, dolmathes and the amazing mozzarella, hard outside and near runny inside, from The Olive Guys. A chocolate booth provided us with two small, luscious chocolates, a pistachio lime coffee and caramel salt.
HORSES IN THE ROAD
When we got home, we rushed out for a walk around the loop with Saffi, tired from the late night before but determined. Nearly home, we ran into Olive and her daughter, coming down the middle of the street on horseback, their dogs, Lucky and Zoe, running along their sides. They were on their way to Fiona’s house to see us. Imagine the world we are living in.
