UNION HALL

The Story · September 11, 2018

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

A map of the Union Hall, Cork County, walking trails. We took the blue trail to the green trail to Union Hall

To get to Union Hall, we took the blue to green trail of the Union Hall walking trails. We began on the one-lane paved (sort of) road, passing two black and white dogs who charge the fence barking at Saffi (they could come around, it’s not blocked, but this is the game), and the tip of the lake. We turned right onto a dirt road, stopping briefly for Saffi to play with Mia, another golden retriever friend and relative, before we wound up a hill and into the farmlands.

Instead of turning right as we would if we were on “the loop,” we continued straight, mostly uphill, passing yet another golden retriever, Joey, an older dog with thick and curly fur. Eventually we climbed our way to the top of the hills where a view of the valley and ocean spread before us.

One more incline, then down hill we went to Union Hall.

We wondered if we would make it home…same hills, another 45 minutes of walking to get there.

We made it!
